Opal Seafood is a small, family-owned company situated in Hafnafjörður in Iceland. We work with traditional craftsmanship passed down by three generations. The ingredients used are all natural and of the highest quality. This attention to every detail during production guarantees a refined product that is easily recognised by its look and taste.

At Opal Seafood we take great care in selecting our raw material. The salmon we use is always of the highest quality and very fresh. The end product is guaranteed ‘never frozen’. 
Other species that we use, such as the haddock and the Greenland halibut, are caught on the coast of Iceland and brought in the next day for transformation.

Opal Seafood aims to make elegant and refined products for its customers. The emphasis is put on a refined taste and an elegant product. Our long, thin slices of salmon are very appropriate for festive occasions. The taste is also refined, as our traditionally hung smoked salmon tends to be firm but melt in the mouth, leaving a pleasant, mild aftertaste.

At Opal Seafood we pay attention to every detail. From the quality control of the fish at its reception, to the packing of every slice of salmon, the product goes through a rigorous inspection to create the best final product. This applies both to quality and presentation. 
Our products are filleted by hand for a beautiful looking and best quality fillet. Our products are salted by hand with dry salt to guarantee the correct amount on every ounce of fillet.

Our products are carefully controlled at the right temperature through every stage of salting and smoking. Finally, every slice is controlled and hand sliced for the right thickness, size and shape. All this ensures that when our customers buy a Opal Seafood product it meets the highest requirements.

At every stage of the transformation of our products, the emphasis is put on ‘know-how’. Opal Seafood makes products that are transformed with craftsmanship passed on by three generations. From the hand filleting of the salmon to the salting of the fillet, the methods used have been perfected over time. For our traditional hung smoked salmon, the salmon is hung by a thread from its tail and smoked vertically. This is the oldest known method to smoke salmon. It guarantees excellent taste and a true culinary experience.
